Sandy Hughes, flutist

Sandy Hughes, a native of Portland, Oregon, became a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra at the start of the 2012-13 season. In addition to LACO, Sandy is a member of the Bateira Trio and of the studio recording roster for Hollywood Scoring. She performs regularly with the New York Philharmonic, including the 2013 European tour, its productions of Company and Sweeney Todd, both of which aired on PBS, and most recently its performances of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Respighi's Roman Trilogy. Sandy has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony, the West Los Angeles Symphony, and was previously a member of the Akron Symphony. Sandy's recent performance highlights include Mahler's Second Symphony with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, led by former maestro James Levine at Ravinia and opening week with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra performing Beethoven's Seventh Symphony conducted by music director, Jeffrey Kahane.
A Fulbright Grant recipient, New World Symphony finalist, and twice a fellow of both the Tanglewood and Aspen summer festivals, Sandy earned her Master of Music in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Hartford, and a Bachelor of Music from the Hartt School of Music. Her major teachers include Robert Langevin, Cindy Meyers, and John Wion.
